PhenylketonuriaPhenylketonuria (PKU) is a congenital condition in which the essential amino acid phenylalanine canīt be broken down. The cause is a lack of the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase. The PKU test is carried out on new-born babies. Phenylalanine is found, for example, in aspartame. |
